RE: Looking for recommendations for Las Vegas and Zion

We stayed at Sam's Town in May . . you can detour local traffic to get there and it is quiter than ones on the strip. Watchman CG in Zion is hot, hot, hot (104 in May). We were assigned a site with absolutely no shade and our A/C struggled. Left early for cooler climate. Snow in Tetons and Yellowstone!

RE: Morro Bay RV park?

Morro Bay State Park is nice . . . . often filled, though. They have a few with hook ups but they go quickly. Probably need a reservation. (ReserveAmerica)

RE: Does anyone check out the site before paying?

We just returned from a six week trip. I'd never checked out the restrooms prior to check-in before, but after a couple of "iffy" campgrounds we started checking them out before checking in! Good Sam is usually reliable, but a couple of their 8 or 9 ratings were questionable in my view. We also learned to pay for one night at a time even if we plan to stay a few days, unless they look like they may fill up! We were checking into one in Michigan for three nights when I leapt out and said "let's just book for one night!" Glad we did. Didn't care much for it and moved to a better place the next day.

RE: Good KoA report

Colorado Springs South KOA is a good place to stop. They have a small cafe offering dinner and breakfast which was very inexpensive! Seemed to be well run and was just $27.00 a night!

average campground cost on 6 week trip

We just returned from a six week trip and I decided to tally up our public and private campground/RV Park costs for 32 nights in 14 different states (the remaining 10 days we spent with friends and relatives).
The average cost per night was $29.72. The low was $9.00 at Zion National Park with a senior discount and the high was $46.11 at Grand Teton National Park's Colter Bay RV CG.
Some were KOAs which we normally dislike, but they were all surprisingly under $30.00 (and one even served breakfast and dinner at a nominal fee).
Most offered Good Sam or FMCA discounts. Our favorite was Yellowstone's Edge RV Park outside of Billings, Montana. A beautifully managed, exceptionally clean park right on the Yellowstone River in Paradise Valley and Aune-Osborne Campground on the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. We'd also recommend Santa Fe Skies RV Park in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

RE: Hobbies and other interests

Reading, hiking, Genealogy research and American History. Next big trip . . . . . Civil War Battlefields. We also like to stay a night in Grand Old Lodges & Hotels (The Ahwahnee, El Tovar, etc. just stayed in Old Faithful Inn and Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island). We can afford to splurge with one night in the hotel/lodge then on to the campground!

RE: teton and yellowstone

We are headed about the same time you are. We are leaving Orange County early next Friday Morning and spending the first night in Hurricane and then Hwy 9 into Zion and on to Hwy12 and Yellowstone.
Maybe we will see you along the way.
Look for us . . . 3 nights at Watchman CG in Zion then on to Yellowstone!

RE: teton and yellowstone

Any ideas on what parks to stay at on the way back to San Diego from Yellowstone.
We're leaving next week for Tetons and Yellowstone (three days at each) before heading east. We're stopping at Zion for 3 nights on the way. It's a long one day drive from San Diego (son lives there and goes to Zion). We'll spend one night around Salt Lake City after Zion then go into the Tetons.
You could spend a week or more at each park, but try them both this year then you can go back to your favorite and stay longer next time!

RE: Gold Beach, Oregon Campgrounds?

We loved Four Seasons RV Park about 7 miles inland right on the Rogue River. The jet boats will pick you up right at the park if you want to cruise the river.
There are a half dozen spots right next to the river, nice owner and friendly atmosphere!

I usually steer clear of KOAs, but this one is nice! Other option is Sonoma Coast State Beach campgrounds but they fill up fast. (ReserveAmerica)

I think we'll head for Sam's Town as we aren't interested in anything but a place to spend the night. Thanks for all of your replies!

We always use campground showeres when available. We have a shower in our Roadtrek, but rarely use it.
